The deep blue of the dress dominates the composition and serves as the starting point for a rich succession of floral elements and painterly marks. Orchids in shades of orange, pink and crimson are arranged around the figure, whilst golden, black and lilac circles break up the background and introduce further colour accents. The flowers seem to emerge from the surface of the dress, creating a continuous interplay between the definition of the figure and the freedom of the painterly gesture.
