Painting works

Paolo da San Lorenzo’s artistic research draws on the painting tradition of the great masters of the 20th century, while developing a highly personal visual language. Through his refined technique and almost magical use of colour, he captivates the viewer in an interplay of emotions that carries the imagination beyond the artwork itself.

Biography

Paolo da San Lorenzo was born on 13 May 1935 in San Lorenzo in Campo (PU). Following his first group exhibitions, held in 1956 in Rome and Pesaro, he set off for Paris: this marked a turning point in his artistic development. The French capital, and in particular its Latin Quarter, became for him the place where he was introduced to post-Cubism, the dominant theme of his series of paintings. In 1986, he exhibited at the Palais des Expositions in Nice and went on to hold exhibitions all over the world, from the Scandinavian Contemporary Art Forum in Stockholm to the Gaymu Inter Galerie in Paris. In 1990, he was included in the Mondadori Catalogue of Modern Art. In 1995, Paolo da San Lorenzo received the ‘Art and Works’ lifetime achievement award in Melbourne. He took part in countless international art fairs between 1999 and 2014, including Miart in Milan, Arte Fiera in Bologna, Arte Verona, the Australian Contemporary Art Fair in Melbourne, St’Art in Strasbourg and KunstRai in Amsterdam. Today, Paolo da San Lorenzo is regarded by the European press as the Master of Colour and one of the last living post-Cubists.
