Matthias Brandes' artistic language evokes the suspension of time, between contemplation and meditation. He explores the symbolic value of the home, a space where our individuality, our memories are protected and reserved. Flying houses are a magical universe where every object can fly and take on the most imaginative symbolism, distorting its perspective and meaning.
Matthias Brandes was born in Bochum , Germany. He studied at the Academy and University of Hamburg, specialising in Art History. Since the end of the 1960s, he decided to devote himself almost exclusively to painting after having obtained his teaching qualification. In 1993, he moved to Meolo, a small town near Venice . Brandes, as well as having exhibited in various prestigious galleries, has numerous participations in national and international exhibitions to his credit.
