Matthias Brandes’ artistic language evokes a suspension of time, suspended between contemplation and meditation. He explores the symbolic value of the home as a space where individuality and memories are protected and preserved. His floating houses create a magical universe where every object can take flight and assume imaginative new meanings, transforming both perspective and perception.
Biography
Matthias Brandes was born in Bochum, Germany. He studied at the Academy and University of Hamburg, specializing in Art History. After obtaining his teaching qualification in the late 1960s, he decided to devote himself almost exclusively to painting. In 1993, he moved to Meolo, a town near Venice.
Brandes has exhibited in numerous prestigious galleries and has participated in major national and international art fairs.
