Biography

Born in Bochum, Germany, Matthias Brandes studied at the Academy and University of Hamburg, where he specialised in History of art. After obtaining a teaching qualification at the end of the Sixties, he decided to dedicate the rest of his life to painting. In 1993 he moved to Meolo, a town near Venice. Along with having exhibited his works in the world’s most prestigious art galleries, he has also participated in many national and international art fairs. These achievements contribute to his current status as one of the most important German artists.
