In this square-format composition, through a masterful use of transparencies, Andrea Giovannini conveys the varying depths of the water with remarkable sensitivity: shades of blue and turquoise overlap, allowing the sand and seabed to emerge with almost striking clarity. The warm, natural tone of the sand derives directly from the wooden support, which becomes an integral part of the composition.

The pictorial surface is built upon a textured base, often created using materials such as sawdust, onto which the artist applies numerous layers of extremely thin, fluid color. This process, which can involve several dozen layers, allows for the creation of refined chromatic depth and subtle variations of light.
