In Valeria Patrizi’s works, technique becomes an integral part of the narrative. The artist constructs each surface through a lengthy manual process: pencil drawings are layered onto canvases treated with coffee, tea and bitumen, materials that leave marks, glazes and deposits with an antique feel. The subsequent application of hand-worked wax unifies the composition and gives the surface the precious appearance of parchment worn by time. In this dialogue between form and material, past and present intertwine, giving rise to suspended, delicate and deeply evocative images.
