Pieces of wall? Carved stones? No, Toni Alfano's paintings are a magical illusion, being actually made on cardboard covered with a thin layer of cement. A slow layering of tempera recreates the effect of a supposedly repainted wall. The figures are made in charcoal and bituminous enamel.

The technique used by the artist has ancient origins and is called Descialbo: a phase in the restoration of works of art - particularly frescoes - that consists of removing the layer of paint from the plaster with a hammer, spatula or scalpel.

In addition to the subjects of great beauty and sensuality that recall the memory of Japan in the past, it is precisely the technique that constantly recalls the concept of Memory, which, like the support on which the works are made, is stratified
